BioSeal is a technology developed by id3 Technologies and Advanced Track & Trace. It is a robust and economical solution for both combating the fraudulent forgery of all types of documents and managing the identity of people through biometrics.
Secure documents with a 2D digital seal
BioSeal is the solution for securing your digital or physical documents. It generates a visible and secure digital seal that will contain both the key information of the document and the biometric identity of the owner.
The high-density structure of the 2D code can store a large amount of information, up to 2,000 bytes, in a small size. A digital signature guarantees the identification of the issuing body and the integrity of the document.
Built-in biometric data allows fully offline biometric authentication to guarantee the identity of the document owner. No need to connect to a remote server or a centralized database.
Digital signature and data encryption
A BioSeal® is a cryptographically signed data structure containing document and biometric features, encoded as a two-dimensional bar code and printed on a physical or digital medium. It ensures the authenticity and integrity of non-electronic documents in a comparatively cheap, but highly secure manner using asymmetric cryptography. The BioSeal complies with the standard of the Visible Electronic Seal (CEV) Otentik 1.0 and the digital signature respects French (RGS) and European (eIDAS) regulations.
An easy to use solution and many advantages
The biometric data of the user’s face are directly encoded and stored in the BioSeal barcode. There is no private data storage in an external database.
BioSeal is fully customizable to authenticate e-Certificates, ID documents, e-transactions… along with the holder’s biometry.
BioSeal offers the security of a smart chip at the cost of a printout.
How it works
id3 Technologies provides an online web service and web components for BioSeal generation and verification. Webservices and web components can be used directly from id3’s website as SaaS or deployed on premise on your physical or virtual host.
1. Capture user information
User information is captured in a desktop or web application. In case of a web application, face picture could be captured using id3 web-components, for example to ensure face quality and to perform anti-spoofing detection. This operation may be performed at an office with an enrolment officer, or at home by the customer itself.
2. Generate a code
Once the data is captured, enrolment application transmits all the information to the BioSeal API. This API returns a BioSeal picture in the specified format. The picture may remain digital (ie. in a PDF file, an email…) or can be printed on a physical support (card, smartcard, paper receipt…).

3. Verify a BioSeal
To check a BioSeal, the operator must scan it with a dedicated application which will check the content (header structure, signature verification…). If all verifications are successful, the data in the BioSeal are presented to the user or the automated system. A live capture of the user’s biometrics is then used for authentication.
BioSeal is labeled France Cybersecurity
The “France Cybersecurity” label meets several needs and objectives:
- Promote French cybersecurity solutions and increase their visibility internationally;
- Raise awareness among international users and prime contractors of the importance of the French origin of a cybersecurity offer and of the qualities which are specific to it;
- Certify to users and clients, the existence and marketing of products and services thus labeled;
- Increase their overall use and raise the level of user protection.
